FAQs
Q : What is Layaway Holidays?
A : Layaway Holidays is New Zealand's first full online layby travel company that allows Kiwis to book a holiday package online and pay it off at a pace that suits their budget. When it's paid off, they can fly away and enjoy it - debt-free, interest-free and guilt-free.

Q : What destinations can I travel to?
A : Our current package offerings focus on the South Pacific and Australia. The package destinations on offer will be increasing over the upcoming months as new contracts are established. We can construct for you a personal itinerary to any destination worldwide. Just use the 'Tailormade' option, and tell us where you want to go! We also offer a range of world-wide cruise options.

Q : Are LayAway Holiday's prices more expensive than the prices I see advertised in the paper and on the TV by other Travel Agents?
A : Yes. Long-term prices will not be as cheap as special offers with a short-sell period and the requirement for immediate payment. These 'special offer' prices are the equivalent of 'sale' prices in a clothing store, and if the holiday 'fits' (i.e. you can travel in the required dates and you have the cash upfront) these special offers represent excellent value.

Q : How do Layaway Holiday's prices compare with other Travel Agencies?
A : You will pay more over the full length term for a Layaway Holiday than booking with a traditional travel agent, however with our "fixed price guarantee" LayAway Holidays guarantees no increase in the cost of your holiday, and as we can book up to 18 months out to spread payments and make them affordable, it's the smart travel option. There is a necessity to build in some protection for our Clients and ourselves against large currency fluctuations, increases in airline fuel prices, and other factors that can heavily impact the cost of a holiday. By prepaying your holiday you avoid credit card debt, and enjoy a manageable and affordable way to save and spread the costs of your Holiday. Layaway Holidays takes the risk on further increases to your holiday cost so you can rest easy knowing your holiday will never increase in price.

Q : Can I book a holiday as a gift for someone else?
A : Yes you can. Make sure you have their exact names as they appear in their passports, as these are essential for travel on all airlines. Be sure to inform our team that your booking is being made 'on behalf' of another party and also to inform us that you will be paying on their behalf.

Q : Can I book a holiday at any time during the year?
A : Yes. You can choose your holiday package and term and start payments at any time during the year.

Q : How far in advance can I book my vacation?
A : 20 Months, by setting the payment calculator at the '18 months' term (holidays must be paid for 2 months prior to departure)

Q : What happens once I've booked my holiday package?
A : You can expect to receive contact from Mondo, our Travel Agent partner, within 3 days to confirm your provisional booking details, which will be fully confirmed once your direct debit is successfully set up.

Q : When will I receive my travel documents?
A : Your documents will be sent out 2 to 3 weeks prior to departure

Q : Do I need a passport or visa?
A : Many countries require you to have a passport valid for 6 months after the date of your return. Many countries also require a visa for entry. Check with www.safetravel.govt.nz. You are responsible for ensuring you have any required visas. Not holding the correct visa will mean you are refused boarding at your point of embarkation.

Q : Do you perform a credit check on me before I can book?
A : We do not require a credit check, as our business is based on pre-pay. You can have bad credit and still make a booking and take a holiday.

Q : Do I need a deposit?
A : No, there are no deposits required.

Q : How can I pay for my holiday?
A : You will set up an online paperless Direct Debit Authority with our payment partner Debitsuccess, the largest payment provider in Australasia. Your online Direct Debit Authority will also be confirmed to you in writing by post.

Q : What is a Direct Debit Authority?
A : A Direct Debit Authority allows a payment to be automatically deducted from your bank account. It's safe, saves you time and saves you money (postage, bank fees etc). You are in complete control at all times. You can cancel/suspend the authority at any time. Payments can be adjusted if you miss a payment. By completing the online Direct Debit Authority form you are authorising Debitsuccess on behalf of LayAway Holidays to debit your payments from your chosen account.

Q : What happens if I miss a payment?
A : If you miss a payment you will be contacted by Debitsuccess who will assist you in making up the missed payment over the following 2 payment periods. If you miss a second period you will be urged to make up the missed payments over the following 4 payment periods, and advised that failure to do so will result in cancellation of your holiday if a further payment is missed.

Q : Will I be charged if I miss a payment?
A : Debitsuccess will charge you a $10 administration fee for this, as per clause 4. of the Debitsuccess terms and conditions contained as part of the Debitsuccess Direct Debit Authority incorporated in the booking process

Q : When is my final payment due?
A : All final payments are due at least 60 days before your departure date, and 90 days in the case of cruises.

Q : What happens if I can't keep up my payments?
A : We understand that circumstances change and if you are not able to keep up payments please call one of our friendly Customer Service staff to discuss your options on 0800 LAYAWAY.

Q : What happens to my payments on Public Holidays?
A : Your Direct Debit payment will come out the working day prior. Please note that LayAway Holidays is located in Auckland, therefore we observe Auckland Anniversary Day.

Q : Can I cancel my vacation plan?
A : Cancellation of your plan will result in cancellation fees becoming due, which will be recovered from the amount you have paid to date for your holiday. Individual resorts and airlines vary in their cancellation charges, and we advise that as per our Terms and Conditions the worst-case scenario is you are liable for up to 37.5% of the total booking cost or the total funds paid to date, whichever is the lesser, unless you are within 2 months or departure (3 months in the case of cruises) when cancellation charges are likely to be 100% of funds paid. Speak to our team on 0800 LAYAWAY and we will advise you on your personal situation.
